Aquaponics Mastery
Chapter 1 – Welcome
Welcome to Aquaponics Mastery. Over the coming weeks we're going to build more than an aquaponics system—we're going to build a living ecosystem.
By the end of this course you'll understand how fish, plants, beneficial bacteria and water work together to produce food sustainably.
A healthy creek demonstrates the cycle: fish produce waste, bacteria convert it into nutrients, plants absorb those nutrients and clean the water, and the water returns to the fish.
The three essential workers are fish, beneficial bacteria and plants. Every successful system depends on all three.
The hidden heroes are the bacteria. Without them, fish waste becomes toxic instead of becoming fertiliser.
Aquaponics is especially useful because it recirculates water efficiently and raised grow beds are easier to protect from wildlife.
